My dear friend Blaney lost 3 straight games in our Madden League at work. After a 3rd consecutive loss (which caused a controller to be thrown against a wall), the Blanester stormed out of the madden room and announced his retirement from the league.

Long story short, I put together this video commentary and sent it company wide. I realize anyone who doesn't know Blaney personally probably won't get the genius of this video, but it's gotten a rave response with the agency. Blaney's even said he might decide to Favre and come back for another season.

The video was created on the amazing new website called Xtranormal.com via Jim's blog. Hopefully more of these vids will make their way on the blog soon...stay tuned.

100 Band in 100 Days

My good friend Nick has embarked on a musical journey of sorts. 100 Bands in 100 Days, is a project forcing Nick to attend a marathon of rock shows in 100 consecutive days. Festivals don't count, it's a different venue every night and he can't pussy out and take a night off. 33 Show deep, he's already gotten some decent press from USA Today and site traffic is up to 750 uniques a day!

In Nick's words:
"Why am I doing this to myself? Simply put: I used to go out and see a lot of music, and I used to write about a lot of music. Sadly, I don’t do either that often anymore. I had to change that. And what better place than NYC. There are hundreds of music venues here, and probably thousands of possible bands to see every night. So for 100 days - from Jan 23 to May 2 - I’m going to see 100 bands in a self-induced binge gigging marathon."

But there's also the not so fun times of a 3+ month commitment. I sit right next to Nick at work and I have watched his level of exhaustion get progressively worse each day as he zombies into work each morning after a late night concert.

Relive the Worst Season...Ever

If there are any Detroit Lions fans left after the historic 2008 season, I'm pretty sure they're not interested in reliving each and every game. My buddy Nick stumbled upon the Lions website today while doing some research for work. We assume the media placement was a mistake.

W+K Madden Champs

The Wieden+Kennedy Madden League sports 20 teams, 2 divisions, a designated HD setup for gameplay and now a new champion.

A big shout goes to Coach Stevens and his Buffalo Bills for being anything but Bills-like and winning the season 4 championship. The Bills high powered offense (a league leading 28.4 points per game) was too much for the Steelers to overcome in the Superbowl.

If you're wondering, my #1 seed Redskins were upset in the 2nd round of the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row by a wild card team. Even with the top ranked defense in the league at 7.7 points per game, it goes to show that defense does not always win championships.

Season 5 owners meeting is today with the fifth season soon to follow.

On MLK Day, wifey & I took a trip to the movies to check out Notorious. Aside from being pleasantly surprised by how much better the Biggie biopic was than I had expected, I was also excited to spot the new standee for Up on our way out of the theatre.

Standing in front of a backdrop, are the 25¢ style binoculars you'd see at a tourist attraction. If you peer thru the viewfinder, you get a closeup look at the latest trailer for the film complete with audio. It definitely beats the majority of cardboard standees that clutter a theatre lobby.

The new Xbox Experience has been the coolest software upgrade since the iPhone dropped the Apps on us. Aside from streaming Netflix in HD, my favorite part of the new OS are the avatars. As I previously posted, the idea is a straight jack from the Wii (but honestly who plays the Wii anymore besides an occasional Mario Cart session?) but with Xbox Live, Microsoft took it to the next level.

I often get more excited by movie trailers than actual movies. And there's nothing that hypes me up like a teaser for a extinction level event blockbuster.

On a side note, I'm really bothered by the 2012 logo. The kerning between the 2 and the 0 isn't consistent with the other letters and it is driving me crazy! I spent a solid 35 minutes Googling whether or not this was an intended easter egg that has some deeper meaning or simply a lazy designer forgetting typography 101. Luckily, I'm not the only OCD'd art director effected by this.

Palin As President demonstrates that a good concept doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the genius is in the simplicity of the idea. When you get to the site, start clicking on everything in the oval office and see what it would be like if the First Runner Up to Miss Alaska had the nuclear codes. When you're done, keep clicking it gets better (especially the doorway).I sent this around the agency today and it received a resounding applause.

Back in 2001, I worked downtown right next to the WTC. I fondly remember grabbing lunch almost every day at an amazing sandwich place called Toasties. The #1 House Special has to be in the top 3 of the All-Time Most Delicious Sandwiches I've Ever Eaten List! Even though it's been seven years since my last visit to Toasties, I still spend many a lunch thinking about the #1

I gave into the cravings a few Friday's back, hopped into a cab and cruised downtown to see if Toasties was still in business after a 7 year hiatus. As I turned down John St, I was hit with a crazy case of Deja Vu. I am pleased to report that nothing has changed in almost a decade and this sleeper establishment is open for business! If you find yourself heading down to ground zero any time soon, do yourself a favor and make stop at John St & Broadway and enjoy.

NEWS: While working last week in the Portland office, I took the opportunity to expand the league. I met with the W+K Portland Madden League commish and began talks to unify the the Portland & New York Madden leagues. The ultimate goal is a simulcasted Superbowl that would unify the belts of both offices and establish inter-office supremacy. Very exciting.

Does anyone else think it's strange that Chipotle doesn't serve breakfast? McDonald's has a wide assortment of morning eats including the tasty breakfast burrito...why wouldn't a mexican fast food place? If Chipotle felt like branching out, they could get crazy and sell breakfast tacos too! Just a thought.

Hopefully Steve from Chipotle reads this and gets in the breakfast game.

Apple announced some newness today. The latest keynote wasn't one of Steve & The Gang's better efforts. The iPod nano got a bit taller. The iPod Touch can do some new stuff. iTunes can make playlists. Wow my mind is blown. I can already do all of this on my iPhone!

The only talk worthy new feature is the integration of the Nike+iPod. It puts the tracking ability into the iPod so you don't need the chip or unreliable watch thing anymore. It's still not available for the iPhone which is why I'm grumbling.

Rally For Music

My bro's putting together a concert this week at the South Street Seaport in NYC. If you're in the city this Friday and looking for something to do check it out.

Here's the info:
We are very excited to invite you to the very first LG Rally For Music Concert Event that will take place In New York City at the South Street Seaport on September 5th. (5PM - 9PM).

The concert will feature a special guest appearance from Gym Class Heroes who will perform hits such as Cupids Chokehold and Clothes Off, as well as songs from their upcoming album The Quilt releasing September 9th.

This concert is the culmination of an online program that we have been running since April. Over 3000 independent bands have registered on our site and have been fighting to earn a spot at the final concert. As a culminating event, LG is sending the top four finalists to NYC to perform live together. Come and watch the final four bands, based on popular vote, battle it out. Audience members have the opportunity to choose the winner via text to vote after the concert. The show will be posted for the national vote-off on RallyForMusic.com until October 22nd, 2008. The finalist will be based on the total amount of votes received and will win a monetary prize amount of $15,000.

This concert is completely FREE so please come out and show your support.

I decided to start a Tumblr blog a while ago to find a place for all the shit that doesn't make the cut on this blog. I like to think of it as the out takes included in the DVD version.

The new site is basically a digital scrapbook of interesting images, videos, quotes, etc that's updated on the regular. I'm not abandoning this site...just branching out a bit.
